Courvoisier L’Essence Cognac
About Courvoisier L’Essence Cognac
Maison Courvoisier is known to be the best Cognac house in the world since Napoleon Bonapare’s times, and it seems to only get better and better each year, receiving more prestigious awards as they go. L’Essence Cognac was the last expression of the house’s fifth master blender Jan-Marc Olivier before he passed his reigns over to Patrice Pinet. Considered a jewel in the collection, L’Essence is a blend of over 100 extremely rare cognac reserves from Champagne and Borderies crus, some of them dating back to the early 1900s, and each one of them celebrated as the most innovative of their time. This is a sublime harmony of flavors, a taste of luxury and riches that is unmatched by anything you’ve ever tasted before. The bottles themselves are worthy of the precious liquid inside: each one is equipped with a hand-sculpted Baccarat crystal decanter that was inspired by a style of ring Napoleon used to give to his soldiers.

About Courvoisier
Established in Paris, in the French suburb of Bercy in 1809, by Emmanuel Courvoisier and Louis Gallois, the then mayor of Bercy. Courvoisier began as a wine and spirits company. Initially starting out as cognac traders for, the duo eventually became producers of cognac.
Centuries later Courvoisier has become a household name. The drink of choice amongst royalty and famous icons. The company, now owned by Beam Suntory, has been making Cognac, and only Cognac for more than 200 years. This VSOP is a subtle balance of oak and exotic flavors bringing together Grande and Petite Champagnes, enhanced by floral fruity Fins Bois.
About Cognac
Cognac is a type of brandy produced in the Cognac region of France.
Because the French take it very seriously, there are numerous rules cognac makers have to follow not to fall “short” into the brandy category.
The white wine from the specific grapes (Ugni blanc) has to be doubly distilled in a copper pot still before being aged for at least two years in oak casks from which the wood can only come from two specific forests in France (Limousin or Tronçais).
Depending on the age, there are three types of cognac, the youngest V.S. (Very Special), V.S.O.P. (Very Superior Old Pale), and the X.O. (Extra Old)
