About Sazerac 18 Year Old 2022 Antique Collection Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey
Each year, the annual Buffalo Trace Antique Collection features some of the most highly anticipated releases for countless whiskey lovers. The Sazerac Rye 18 Year-Old is among these annually-released whiskeys. The expression pays tribute to the Sazerac Coffee House in New Orleans, credited with creating “America’s First Cocktail” ― the Sazerac. It’s a wonderfully mature and complex expression and the 2022 release is no exception. It was distilled in 2003 and 2004 from Minnesota rye, Kentucky corn, and North Dakota malted barley. Then, it spent 18 years and 6 months patiently maturing in new American white oak (#4 char) casks in warehouses K, M, and P, before finally being bottled at 90 proof in 2022. The 2022 release features a wonderfully zesty nose with molasses and a bold palate with black pepper, coriander, and maple syrup. The finish is equally complex with oak, mint, and tobacco.

Buffalo Trace’s award-winning Sazerac brand is a tribute to the Sazerac Coffee House (at the time, the term “coffee house” was used to refer to a cocktail bar) and the role it played in replacing brandy with rye whiskey in the cocktail of the same name.
About Rye
As American as the bald eagle, rye whiskey was first brewed in the American Northeast in the 1600s. Even George Washington distilled it after leaving the Oval Office, so there’s no way of denying its origin.
It’s distinguished from bourbon for its original and unique spicy notes.
By law, rye whiskey must be made from at least 51% rye grain, aged in new and charred oak barrels for at least two years, and bottled at no more than 62,5% ABV.
